Diet For Individuals With Add
In all disease and disorders, your diet plays an important role. The food you eat can do two things it can either aggravate or improve your present medical condition.
Attention Deficit Disorder, also referred to as ADD, is a common disorder in kids. ADD is characterized with inattention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. ADD is greatly associated with the brains dysfunction. Food is the fuel of your brain so it is only but right to feed it right. People who suffer from ADD should follow a regular diet that should help improve their brain functions.
Studies show that individuals with ADD have low levels of essential fatty acids. This can lead to poor sleeping habits, mood swings and misbehavior. This is why it is important to include foods high in essential fatty acids in your diet. Omega-3 is an example of an essential fatty acid that can be found in your brain. Omega-3 is only available through the food we eat such as salmon, tuna, shrimps, nuts, olive oil and soybeans.
Amino acids are also an important food for the brain. It helps in the production of enzymes and neurotransmitters, which aid in the communication between brain cells. Foods with high amino acids are also rich with protein and some common examples include fish and meat.
Vitamin B also promotes the production of the brains neurotransmitters, which is primarily responsible for sending message in the entire nervous system. One study shows that people with ADD are found to have low neurotransmitters serotonin. When Vitamin B6 supplements are taken, there is an increased number of serotonin in the body. If supplements are not available, then try getting Vitamin B in natural foods like dairy products, leafy and green vegetables, whole grains and meat.
It would also be a good idea to stay clear of food that is shown to trigger or worsen ADD. These would include chocolates, sugar, and products with additives, artificial flavors and food coloring.
With this diet in mind, there would be a significant improvement in people suffering from ADD. Remember that more than the food they eat, it is important to show your utmost support and understanding to anyone with such a disorder.
